Grim Undies

In my 938-year career as a cartoonist, I’ve done quite a few dry cleaner jokes. I would never have guessed this was a topic I would gravitate to, but it has so many fun elements to it that I keep going back to the well.

My favorite kinds of gags are the ones where you have to put the puzzle together in your head a bit to get the joke. Dry cleaners are perfect for this because you can lead the reader down a road based on the customer, the clothing, and the comments by the counter help. The readers puts the clues together and chuckle over their cleverness. Below are a couple of my favorites from days gone by.Bz PirateDryCleaners 1989 WEBbz 11-08-12 dry cleaner

  1. I like these cartoons! I was just at a dry cleaner’s today and noticed several (!) small hand-lettered signs pointing out that $50 and $100 bills were not accepted. According to the clerk, even four signs (in a small space) are not enough for some people.

  2. What?? No Grimm fairy tale dry cleaning laughs? Hillarious as usual – my favourite site for a quick pick-me-up.

  3. The Grim Reaper is a commonly recurring character in comics. So I’m wondering, Dan, if you’ve ever read any of Terry Pratchett’s delightfully satirical Discworld novels. The Grim Reaper (just one of many characters) is known simply as “Death,” speaks in capital letters, likes gardening, and rides a white horse named Binky. If you’ve never read the Discworld novels, I suggest you rush right out and get as many as you can!
