Fear of Farm Girls

Bizarro 05-17-15 hdrWEBBizarro is brought to you today by Alex Trebek Sighting.

I made a mistake in today’s Sunday comic and I didn’t catch it until it was too late to stop it from getting into print. I’ve posted the corrected version here but the inferior one is in papers all over the world today. In the version with the screw-up, the caption reads, “Farm Bizarro 05-17-15 WEBgirls, scarecrows and tin men, oh my!” I guess I was writing it correctly, instead of mimicking the way the similar line was said in the film, with the extra “and” between “farm girls” and “scarecrows”. Arrrrggghh. I know it’s no big deal but it bugs me and I wish I’d caught it sooner. On the bright side, there are still seven secret symbols to look for, which you can find more easily by clicking the image and making it larger.

My mind wandered recently about the beginning of basketball and wondered what they used for the ball before modern technology created what we now use. Going further back, I imagined this scene of a couple of cave dudes fighting over a boulder. Since I am not a terribly tall person (3’7″) I’m always last to be picked for basketball teams. That is, until they find out that I can fly, and also become invisible at will. Who’s laughing now, tall people?

Meeting “God”

Yesterday, my girlfriend, Olive Oyl, and I were invited to sit in on a table read of the first episode of the new season of The Simpsons. If you’re not familiar with this term, it’s when a whole lot of people involved in the show––directors, producers, actors, writers, etc.––sit around a large table and read a new script. From this, the people involved are able to see what parts of the script are successful and which need work. Outside observers are often brought in so that those already familiar with the script can judge their reactions. (more…)

I went to a taping a few nights ago of the popular Comedy Central TV game show “@Midnight” with Chris Hardwick and nearly required an ambulance by the time it was over. It’s actually a pretty funny show if you have a certain sense of humor, so I can recommend you check it out if you’re not already a fan, but if you decide to see a live taping, read the following story first and be sure you train for a few weeks before you go. Seeing, Believing

I’ve never been drunk enough to hallucinate but if I did, I’d be terribly amused to see a creature like this one. Of course, if I saw it in a public place, I couldn’t be sure that it wasn’t just someone in a costume. That sort of thing may not happen in most cities and towns, but in the places I’ve been living for the past 12 years, New York and Los Angeles, it would not be all that surprising. (more…)

Bizarro’s 2012 Year in Review

(To view this cartoon as big as a pink elephant, click on the barfing character’s butt.)

Very soon our tiny planet will have successfully made another revolution around the sun and I am thankful for the ability to say so without fear of prosecution. Galileo spent the rest of his life under arrest for saying the same thing in 1633, so we shouldn’t take these things for granted. In addition to that excellent news, I have had a tremendously successful year in my own life and I want to share those victories with you now.  As is done by so many others at this time of year, (more…)

LA Comedy Show Postmortem

Last night’s comedy show in LA went well and everyone had a terrific time. This was verified by federal polling officials who interviewed each and every member of the audience as they exited, ascertaining that their time was “terrific.” Thanks to all you Jazz Pickles who showed up and said “hi.”

While I enjoyed my set, my favorite part of the evening by far was getting to meet Garfunkel and Oates, a comedy duo who have been among my absolute favorites for a few years now. The image below these words is non-Photoshopped proof (except for red-eye reduction) of our meeting. (more…)

Am I a Movie Star?

A good friend of mine in LA is a producer (not like Steven Spielberg, but he produces things) and he let me be in a short film he is making. I posted a photo album of my two days on set on my official Bizarro Facebook page. I had a great time, except for the insanely huge amount of boring time spent between each scene.( And I mean HUGE and BORING) Still, I had a ball and hope to get to do it again sometime soon. Movie News!

Hey, Jazz Pickles. Here’s a quick note about a terrific short film being made by some very good people and some friends of mine. (Not to say that my friends are not “very good people.”)

I might even have a part in it if they raise enough money in the next six days, so I’m asking you to pitch in. If you have just a few bucks, or better yet, a ton of bucks, give these guys a chance. If for no other reason, you can say that you helped fund the project that gave me my start in screen acting, and when I win an Academy Award someday for my portrayal of a blind, deaf, quadriplegic, African American, patriotic, single mother of nine who was forcibly hooked on heroine by her terrorist kidnappers , you can claim a piece of the gold! Bizarro is brought to you today by Super Mistakes.

It’s been a week since I’ve posted because I had to get ready to leave town for my show in Washington D.C. over the weekend, fly there, do the show, then come home. I’ve done all that now so I’m back at headquarters and blogging like a chimp with a new laptop. (more…)
