My cartoon today is about the disappointment one feels when they trust someone to fix things and that person turns out to be a charlatan. We’ve all experienced this with politicians and one can read that message as the subtext to the Wizard of Oz: The man at the top, the Great Wizard of Oz, is just a regular guy pulling switches and levers to make himself seem more powerful than he really is. A person can also easily see this as an allegory of Donald Trump’s current campaign.

Monday’s cartoon is the brain fruit of my known associate, Wayno of Pittsburgh. I’ve seen these e-cigarettes around but I don’t really know how they work. For a while, you could smoke them indoors since, I presume, they pose no second-hand smoke risk or smell, but now they are beginning to ban them indoors like real cigarettes, I suppose because people have been brainwashed in the U.S. for so many decades to believe that smoking, or even pretending to, is the most dangerous thing any person can do short of cleaning a gun with the barrel in your mouth. Weekend in Bugrump

This was one of those cartoons that required a little extra work to convert from panel to strip. As I’ve mentioned here before, I draw the vertical panel first, then use the elements to create the horizontal strip version. This often requires some extra drawing. Since this gag is very vertical in its original form, I had to move the airline displays down quite a bit and enlarge them so they could be read. This changed the angle that the pig’s head needed to point so I had to flop and reattach it. Then, of course, there’s the matter of the extra drawings needed to fill the blank spaces at the left and right. Montel Williams was nice enough to step in as the character at right. (more…)

Keep Your Pants On

I never miss a chance to poke fun at the TSA (Thousands Standing Around) because I am a firm believer that they are the most obvious sign of the terrorists “winning.” We spend billions of dollars a year to enact this absurd charade of security, but tests that the TSA runs on its own system have reportedly routinely shown that it is still fairly easy to smuggle knives and guns on board an airplane.  One story I’ve heard is that an undercover agent for the TSA managed to smuggle a huge bag of deadly snakes on board by dying them orange and claiming they were super-sized Cheetohs. I mean, come on!  Whatever the case, I’m convinced that the shoes and liquids thing are complete nonsense that could be done away with easily without consequence. Most of the process we go through is a political charade to make us feel more secure, when the truth is that (statistically) we never were in that much danger in the first place. (more…)

Ever wonder how magicians do that trick where they cut a live woman in half? As unpopular as this post will be with “magicians,” I’m going to explain it to you now: They actually cut a living woman in half but the trick is that they use a saw coated with quick-coagulating, self-healing medicine that immediately seals the woman’s body off so she doesn’t die. As long as he puts her back together before her lower half dies from not having a heart, she is fine. I guess I should have said SPOILER ALERT first. Sorry if this disillusions you. (more…)
