As I’ve mentioned here before, I design and draw my cartoons to fit into the vertical “panel” format, then reposition that art and add to it as necessary for the horizontal “strip” version. So I think most of my gags work better as panels, but in this case, the strip works better because we get a better sense of the speeding taxi. In both frames, however, the hapless texter gets flattened. (more…)

I took some time off to travel but am happy to be back in my captain’s chair here at Bizarro International Headquarters.

Accordingly, here are a passel of cartoons to catch you up to date. First up is a cartoon that proved popular among readers. Personally, I never use my first pet’s name as a security question because, although I loved the dog, I never liked her name: “Penny.” I don’t have anything against the name per se, but my older sister picked it and so it seemed feminine to me. I was rooting for “Spike” or “Killer.” She looked not unlike the dog in this cartoon, except that her spots were brown. Like you care. (more…)

I’ve been out of town for a few days, hence being so far behind on blogging. I’ve missed my Bizarro Jazz Pickles and hope you missed me, too.  The Sunday comic above is the first one I can say was completely influenced by my new digs in Los Angeles. California has micro-climates-a-plenty and it is sometimes almost as weird as this drawing. This one appeared in papers on April Fools’ Day. Can you spot the April Fools’ joke that I included in this cartoon? You’ll have to blow it up to see it, I suspect. Only truly observant Jazz Pickles have much of a chance. (more…)
