Sunday Punnies #25

September 8, 2012

(To see this image as big as all get-out, click on Mona Lisa’s chin.)

Bizarro is brought to you today by X-Ray Vision.

If this is your first time visiting my blog, have a look around at the other posts, as well. If you’re not entertained, you’ll get a complete refund.

My Sunday Punnies series is one in which I use puns sent in by readers and embellished by myself. This week’s winners are Dan Murray, Julie Fisher, and Vance Lehmkuhl. If you’d like to submit your pun for possible future use, follow these guidelines:

1. Your pun has to be original. Please don’t send me something you heard years ago somewhere or saw on the Interwebs.

2. By submitting, you agree that the cartoon produced becomes mine and you will get no copyright or compensation, other than the inexplicable glory of seeing your name in the funny papers.

3. Tell me the name you’d like me to attribute it to if I use your idea. Anything is fine, doesn’t have to be your real name. (Like “Vance Lehmkuhl” is his real name!)

4. I don’t publish the comments with pun suggestions in them so as not to ruin the fun if I decide to use it, or embarrass you if the whole world thinks it is dumb. So you won’t see your comment in the comments section, but rest assured, I read them all with one or both of my own eyes.

5. Do not run naked into a police station. You could be detained.

That’s it. Good luck and be punny, Jazz Pickles.

the first pun is actually from Pearls Before Swine … there’s a set-up (they’re giving away map books) and then the character makes that exclamation upon receipt.

Bad news, Dan–Mona Lisa was, according to Wikipedia, painted on a “poplar panel”, i.e. wood, not canvas.

The good news is that I think your strip is great!

Today’s first pun was earlier reflected in PBS.

Maybe it’s just me, but I think the first one would have worked better if it had simply been Google Maps. For years we were buying everything from Atlases to street maps… but maybe that’d be too much an advert for Google.

That first pun reminds me of this Pearls strip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARWnaniZN2g 🙂 The last one is hard to figure out, but I guess the point is that they’re not in the mural?

The last one is a pun on the famous line from The Wizard of Oz, “I guess we’re not in Kansas anymore.”

        Ok, Got it! Thanks

About the first pun, a lot of different puns could be made from that one phrase, and yours is distinctly different from the one in PBS, so despite other comments I still consider it unique even though it reminds me of it 🙂

Really wonderful work you’ve been creating. How do you continue to do it? Steroids? No matter, you keep hitting them out of the park!

Yes, but it’s only a cartoon so we’re making a leap of fiction. :o)

My daughter Pearl and I could only find 6 hidden items in this comic. We figure it must be a hidden K2. Can you help us, Dan?

Happy to help, Tony and Pear. Left panel, piece of pie. Middle panel, alien T-shirt, upside-down bird way up at top, Right panel, Bunny on truck, eyeball by signature, firecracker on Taxi door sign. Glad to have stumped you. :o)

    Dear Mr. Piraro:

I was wondering if you happened to know why the Philadelphia Phillies use that ridiculous mascot rather than a proper Phemale Phoal, as their name suggests?

    Regards,

    Ed

P.S. Love your cartoons in the phunny pages — phabulous! (If that’s not going too phar.)
