Ring Me Up

Lately, I’ve been publishing some pretty obscure cartoons that have, quite predictably, caused a lot of readers to scratch their heads. Some are doing this because they have lice, of course, that’s always a given. But many—I hope most—are scratching in wonderment of what the hell I’m getting at this time.

In the case of the cartoon above, I’m getting at rings. A friend of mine (whose name is cleverly hidden among the pet food products) told me he’d been musing about a tree using its rings to prove it was old enough to buy beer. It was such a strange notion that I sort of couldn’t resist drawing it. Some of my fave bits in this one are the background jokes hidden among packaging and posters, so don’t miss those. There are also 9 Secret Symbols, so have fun searching.

Don’t know about you, but I’ve worked up an appetite and am ready to bite into whatever Wayno was grilling in his cartoon food cart last week. Let’s find out…

That joke always kills. (Yes, I went there.)

I have a couple of name ideas that refer to the nature of their clothing which represents aspects of both of the traditional manners in which members of the two sexes have dressed throughout history in western culture, but I will keep them to myself for fear of using the wrong term.

I hate to tell you boys but those boobs don’t look real enough to fool anybody.

This is a still from the unreleased film Readers of the Last Part. The stuff written before that wasn’t funny enough to include in the cartoon, so…

Personally, I think discriminating between engorged leeches and non-engorged ones is discriminatory. Maybe that’s just me.

On a more important note, Wayno made a tiny computer mistake on the strip version of this vampire cartoon that led to mass confusion among millions of comics fans. He tells the whole sordid story on his weekly cartoon blog and even apologizes. Don’t miss it, but come right back!

I hope they have a plan for getting down because Wayno didn’t draw them a ladder. #ImpendingCartoonRescues

That’s the end of our cartoon mudwrestling match this week, Jazz Pickles. Thanks for getting filthy with us! And thanks to those of you who sent me birthday wishes last week. It’s good to have invisible friends. If you enjoy our cartoons and commentary, please consider dropping a buck in the cup by visiting the links below. As the newspaper industry treads water and we give our cartoons away for free online, our incomes continue to dwindle. A buck or two from a few kind readers helps to keep Rancho Bizarro open for business.

Until next week, be happy, be smart, be nice, and resist ignorance, fascism, and nationalism.
