Sod It All

Good moment to you, Jazz Pickles, and tourists. Today’s cartoon (above) is not about a laundromat. If you thought it was, you weren’t looking carefully enough. If you enjoy looking at things carefully, I’m happy to tell you that there are 9 Secret Symbols in this one. Unless I miscounted, which I do with increasing frequency. Sometimes I don’t look carefully enough, either.

And here’s more good news: Last week’s Sunday comic with the funky word puzzles got a lot of positive reviews from readers, so my buddy, Cliff, and I are doing another triptych for a future Sunday cartoon. It will likely be published on what residents of this dimension quaintly refer to as 23 May 2021.

Many of you correctly identified our vignettes of last week as using the same puzzle motif as William Steig’s brilliant children’s book from the late ‘60s, C D B!. That book and its sequel were the inspiration for Cliff’s puzzles which I’ve illustrated above. His tend to be more complex, however, and so we think of them more as C D B! for adults. (Not to be confused with CBD, also for adults.)

My post is late this week because I had an experience over the weekend that prompted my mind to take a two-day break. It’s back now, though, so let’s jump right into where Wayno’s mind was at in last week’s Bizarro cartoons…

As I’ve said many times, hyenas are among my favorite animals that I hope never to be attacked by.

Doing a caricature of a cartoon is harder than Wayno makes it look. He says a bit about this challenge in his weekly cartoon blog post here.

For me, this gag is entirely about how funny the word “indocent” is.

And what should he do when he needs to rip someone to pieces in an orgy of blood?

He should never have accepted that Fisher Price endorsement deal.

Well, Jazz Pickles (tourists never read this far), we’ve hit the crash-test wall. Thanks for strapping yourself in and staying all the way to the airbag faceplant. And if you’ve enjoyed our work and appreciate the lack of ads, maybe toss us a buck via one of the links below. We’ll be all cute and giggly about it if you do.

Till next time, keep your pickles jazzy and your mind wide open.
