Big and Teeny

I’m Dan Piraro, the creator of the Bizarro newspaper comic. Each week, I post my Sunday Bizarro comic, then a short essay, then the past week’s Monday-Saturday Bizarro comics written and drawn by my partner, Wayno whose weekly blog post I recommend highly.

Here’s the ANSWER KEY to this week’s Secret Symbols in the Sunday comic, above.——————————————————

I’ve no idea what it was like in Lake Wobegon this week but it was anything but quiet here at Rancho Bizarro. My wife, Olive Oyl, has been out of town for ten days so I was in charge of our two big dumb dogs and Her Highness, our cat. Early in the week, both dogs contracted some kind of parasite(s) and were shooting brown water out of their asses with barely enough advance warning to stand up and take two steps. In addition to all of the extra cleaning up and laundry I was saddled with, I had to take them to their veterinarian and then drive all over town looking for a certain medication for myself as she warned me these things are just as happy in my gut as theirs. That trip required more cleaning, this time of the car. Ugh.

If you are on the fence about adding a dog to your family, don’t let that story dissuade you. I’ve lived with dogs my whole life and this is the first time that particular calamity has befallen me. It is true that dogs, like children, are sometimes disgusting but most of the time they are invaluable members of the family and make us laugh and coo daily.

If you are on the fence about contracting parasites, I strongly advise you to get off that fence and drop the idea. They will considerably reduce the lifespan of your washer and dryer.

NEW TOPIC (thank god!): The Sunday cartoon above is one of the weird children’s poems that came to me back in the 90s, a few of which I’ve illustrated for Sunday Bizarros. I included the first one a few weeks ago in this post and I predicted there’d be a few more coming in March, which is now.  The third one is scheduled for next Sunday.

Although I have known people whose heads were metaphorically too large or too small, this poem was not drawn from personal experience. Okay, maybe it was. I have occasionally been accused of having a big head and though I lament the accusation, it does at least keep my shoulders well-shaded.

To find out which of Wayno’s Bizarro cartoons are drawn from experience, check out his weekly blog post and ask him in the comments section. Here now are the cartoons in question from Bizarro Studios North…

Based on the remains that the government is hiding at Area 51, aliens actually prefer bellbottoms.

Speaking of pants, I’d bet good money none of these dogs are wearing any. Maybe not the dude, either.

Wayno has done a lot of art for beer labels, which he talks about in his post this week. (Link in first paragraph, above.) In fact, some Jazz Pickle or other should suggest he do a post featuring a bunch of them.

Gotta watch those poutine numbers, man.

What kind of weather suggests a fur coat and bare feet?

Well, Jazz Pickles, that fabulous lumberjack signals the end of our weekly drag log jam. Thanks for sticking around to help us sweep up the sawdust and sequins. If you like what we do and that we work this hard without charging you for it, please consider thanking us via one of the links below. As the newspaper industry shrinks, folks like us depend more and more on the generosity of readers like you.

Until next week, hold your head up high, unless it’s the size of a refrigerator, in which case maybe you should stoop a little.
