Peas on Earth

Happy moment to you, Jazz Pickles. Some of you are reading this now while others have read it previously and some will read it later. Most will never read it at all or even know it exists. In fact, my entire life and all of the work I’ve done since the middle of the last century or will do before I die will be gone forever in an astronomical blink of an eye.

Now that we’ve reviewed my place in the universe, let’s talk about cartoons.

If you’ve not seen a Sunday newspaper funnies section in a long time (or ever) you may not know that the square image at the top of all of my blog posts is a title panel from Sunday newspapers.

Different newspapers have different formats for their Sunday comics and some (a small minority) use big, square title panels just to the left of the cartoon. The image below is how this week’s cartoon appears in that tiny minority of papers. Since I have to do the art but few people ever see it, I include them in my blog posts here. This week’s title panel was built using the art from one of my comics from years ago about a would-be Jack-and-the-Beanstalk who got magic cabbage seeds instead.

About the cartoon itself, I had some fun drawing this couple’s kitschy kitchen. My favorite bit is the Bizarro Bunny cookie jar on the shelf. I’d like to have one of those but not enough to go to the trouble to create one or pay someone else to. “Stuff” doesn’t appeal to me as much as it used to and I think that’s a good thing.

Longtime Jazz Pickles know that I’m a big believer in authenticity in my cartoons and so I’m very lucky that this particular species of extraterrestrial speaks a language extremely similar to Earth’s English.

Before we review my partner, Wayno’s Bizarro cartoons from the week, I must announce that if you’ve been following my graphic novel, Peyote Cowboy, there’s another episode coming in a matter of hours! It’s huge and the art is particularly luscious. I hope all my Peyote Cowpokes get a hootenanny-good time from it! If you’re new to Peyote Cowboy, start here. If you want to catch up on episodes or review the story so far before the new episode posts, go here.

And now, Wayno’s Bizarro cartoons from the week with my potentially-worth-reading remarks…

I allow Wayno plenty of leeway in interpreting my Bizarro Secret Symbols and he has frequently had a lot of fun with the Flying Saucer of Possibility. The one in this image is certainly the farthest he has stretched the envelope but it goes perfectly with the gag, so the judges are going to allow it.

The funny thing about justice systems is that they seem not to be concerned with justice in the least.

The freaky thing here is that he must have known he was about to run out of ink when he started the sign.

‘Murican-style freedom on display. If this kid doesn’t have Qanon bookmarked, he soon will.

According to Wayno’s weekly cartoon blog post this week, this cartoon coincidentally published on Frank Beard’s birthday. He’s the drummer for ZZ Top and the only one in the band without a beard. Or at least, one made of hair.

A few observant readers caught that the book in his hand features MAD Magazine’s Alfred E Neuman. Also on Wayno’s blog post this week, he shows the cover of the book he facsimilated, which was his introduction to MAD as a kid.

That’s the end of our comedy clothesline this week, Jazz Pickles. Thanks for hanging around till the humor was dry. If you’ve enjoyed spending time with us without being assailed by pop-up ads, please consider tossing a buck or two into the bunny’s mouth via one of the links below. Every little bit helps to keep the advertisers away!

Until next week, let being a jerk about something be one thing you don’t get around to.
