Playthings of War

I’m Dan Piraro, the creator of the Bizarro newspaper comic. Each week, I post my Sunday Bizarro comic, a short essay, and then the past week’s Monday-Saturday Bizarro comics written and drawn by my partner Wayno, whose weekly blog post I highly recommend.

And here’s this week’s ANSWER KEY to my Sunday comic’s Secret Symbols.

Saludos, Jazz Pickles!

In this week’s missive, I have a couple of cartoon art auctions to tell you about!

First, there is a fantastic event called Cartoonists4Kamala. Dozens of your favorite cartoon and comic book artists have donated original art to be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the Harris/Walz campaign. Yes, democracy really is at stake for the first time since maybe the Civil War.

Wayno and I have both donated art along with 64 other artists. Strangely, the auction ends at different times for different pieces of art. Mine ends tomorrow—so get your bid in!—Wayno’s ends on Wednesday.

Some of the art is political, but most of it is not. Wayno’s and mine are not. Here are the images we donated.

The other auction only benefits me, so grab something from the Kamala auction first! Always save your country before helping out one of your favorite cartoonists.

This one is from Qart, an online gallery that sells some of my original Bizarro panels and also limited-edition signed and numbered prints. Each time I’m in L.A. visiting family, I drop by the warehouse and sign a few hundred prints, so my DNA is all over those things.

Visit this auction here. It seems to say it’s over in nine days, so you have a little more time.

Lastly, I posted a new episode of my graphic novel Peyote Cowboy a couple of days ago. It’s a fun one with some dandy plot twisting. Enjoy the new episode here, or catch up on the story from the Episodes page. It’s free.

Wayno’s weekly post is always worth reading and this week, he has another fun photo of a Jazz Pickle in her new T-shirt! Shop our shirts and other schwag in the King Features Comics Kingdom shop, or grab one of our stickers, koozies, an embroidered patch, or a gift card from my personal Bizarro shop here.

With that biz out of the way, let’s see what Wayno has been up to with his Bizarro cartoons from the week…

It’s always fun to sneak a peek at the peak, and bringing your favorite chimp along is an added benefit.

Even his coffee cup is tired.

One of my favorites is Moby Richard III. (Not shown)

A closer look at his desk shows he’s a fellow pie fan.

They mostly only steal thesauruses.

Wayno confesses in his blog post this week that his inspiration for this one was a certain bearded conman’s response to a question about why he openly lies to the public.

We’ve come to the end of our humorous hero’s journey. Thanks for hanging around until we slayed the shortsighted Cyclops. If you appreciate that we do this for free, without ads or clickbait, please consider helping us keep it that way via the links below. We’ll love you for it in a cartoony way.
