Choice Spud
One small shred of evidence that the world is becoming a better place is that a few years ago, I would not have been allowed to publish this cartoon on a Sunday. The reference to an illegal, schedule 1 “gateway” drug would have been considered too racy for the Sunday comics section, which the newspaper industry has long maintained as a place safe for families. Now that weed is (rightly, logically) legal in so many places and been proven to have myriad health benefits and to be FAR safer than the opioid poison that Big Pharm has been peddling to families all over the U.S., this doesn’t seem so scary. (Now if we’d just free everyone who’s rotting in jail for possession of a harmless plant that grows naturally all over the goddamn planet.)
Within this comic are a couple of my product label jokes, which loyal Jazz Pickles know is a cherished practice of mine. In case you can’t see them in the above image, here’s a closeup.
Olive Oyl and I have had an exciting couple of weeks. We visited Austin, Texas and attended my fabulous daughters’ I’m the Mary Variety Hour. It was stupendous. Standing-room only, big laughs and ovations, just great all around. Congrats, gals! You made a (formerly) performing comedian a proud papa!

As though that were not enough, while in Austin, we also all attended a Sklar Brothers comedy show. Damn, I love those guys. They’re smart and funny and clever and weird and cool and insightful; all of the things I look for in comedy. My fab daughters have become friends of theirs over the years and so we got to hang out with them after the show. We’re all best friends now and I even took them for a ride on my saucer. I did a quick sketch of that below.
I encourage all my Jazz Pickles to follow the Sklar Brothers online and go see a show of their’s when they pass through your area. And they will.
O2 and I are happy to be home now, back on the safe side of The Wall. Let’s see what surprises Wayno had for us this past week…

How many clowns does it take to screw in the glovebox lightbulb in a clown car? Just one, but the other 24 clowns have to get the hell out of the way so he can open the damn thing.
My own grandmother used to leave a slice on the floor in odd places around the house.
Soon after, the other retired magicians will make it disappear.

I’m proud to say that I’ve never asked someone to lift me up to the bar and push my face into a cocktail to get me going. I’ve come close, of course, but who hasn’t?
