Sticking It to the Man

I’m Dan Piraro, the creator of the Bizarro newspaper comic, and this is my weekly blog post. The large Sunday Bizarro comic above is mine, as are the comments below. The past week’s Monday-Saturday Bizarro comics that follow were written and drawn by my partner Wayno, whose weekly blog post I highly recommend.

And here’s this week’s ANSWER KEY to my Sunday comic’s Secret Symbols.

Welcome to this specific illusion in your brief time on earth.

I hope you’ll find my above cartoon uplifting. It’s nice to see someone being generous to their fellow man—even of only a stick of one—especially when the headlines are filled with blatant displays of toxic, heartless greed. (No more politics today, I promise.)

Instead, prepare to be uplifted by this: my good friend and occasional business partner, Andrew Couch. You can tell by the photo below that he’s a real sweetheart. He’s also a terrifically talented writer, philosopher, mensch, and audio/video guy.

Andrew has an abundant affinity for the human race, especially those on the fringes. (That includes just about everyone other than powerful, white males these days. [That’s not politics; it’s social commentary.])

In summary, he loves people.

He’s recently launched a new project that I think is beautiful and brilliant. It’s an artful way to gift a bit of your life to those you love. He offers several ways (and price tiers) for us to leave the best stories and memories of our lives to our loved ones and the rest of humanity.

He was inspired by the famous handprints left on cave walls by our ancestors tens of thousands of years ago.

He explains:

“…looking at those hands, in particular, I can’t help seeing someone desperate to be remembered. A grandfather with a missing digit tells the story of his time as a hunter and the loss of a loved one. Or perhaps a parent helps a sickly child mark the wall with her tiny palm to commemorate her abbreviated stay on the planet. Regardless of the story we choose to derive from these images today, there is little question that they have been gazed upon by many more people than the ones who crafted them could have imagined. Talk about a family legacy!”

His project is called Sound Legacy, and I hope a few of you will give it a look. The clients he’s had thus far give him, the process, and the product rave reviews. (Click that link, scroll down to “Testamonials.”)

Here’s Andrew again:

“Are you interested in preserving your story or your voice? Do you know someone whose story you want to paint onto the limestone walls for future generations to see? While I’m clearly professionally biased and frankly obligated to recommend it, I’m personally curious to get involved. Please reach out anytime to begin your Sound Legacy journey. We’re looking forward to it.”

I guarantee you’ll enjoy corresponding with Andrew, whether or not you enlist his services.

I also highly recommend his Substack Newsletter. Here is one of my recent favorites of his. I aspire to be half the writer he is, but I doubt I’ll ever get there.

Now let’s check in on the other half of Bizarro, my talented and equally lovable partner, Wayno. (My motto is to only work with lovable folks.) Here’s his week of Bizarro cartoons to awaken your smile muscles…

I don’t know about you, but math was never this much fun for me.

Dude, dream appearances always cost more. Therapists have dreams of their own to appear in, you know.

Wayno got a fun comment about this one from a musician. He quotes it in his blog post this week.

If ever there was a loaded word, “deserve” is one.

I’m grateful I was young at a time when a person with decent hand skills could still make a convincing fake I.D. I made one when I was 17 that never got turned down.

This rings a bell for me. When it comes to automotive mechanics, my intelligence is completely artificial.

And with that, we yield the floor. If you’ve enjoyed that we offer these missives free of charge and ads, please consider thanking us via the links below. We’ll love you for it.
